A Healthy Spine for Life

Back pain hits all of us at some time in our life. Most of the time, it’s relatively minor and with a bit of rest and some ibupropin, we’re out of pain in a matter of days. But as we go through life, it doesn’t hurt to know the facts and take some care to keep our one and only spine healthy.

In order to maintain a healthy spine for life we need to:

Make sure we pay attention to what our body says to us. If we do something and realize that our back hurts we need to stop and rest and evaluate the pain. Whatever we do, if we don’t listen to what our body tells, we will do further damage. Pain is a warning that we had better slow down or stop what we’re doing. If pain persists, we should seek medical attention.

Make sure that we’re sitting and sleeping comfortably. We all know that when we sit or sleep, we need to have our back and neck properly supported. .When sitting, your lower back need support. When sleeping, make sure your pillow & mattress are appropriate.

Excess weight may cause excessive pressure on your lower back so try to keep your weight in check.

Know how to lift properly. Always use your legs rather than your lower back to lift loads. Always bend your knees so you’re your arms are at the same level as the heavy object.

As we get older, our bones get thinner. Osteoporosis can be treated by weight bearing exercises, adequate calcium and vitamin D and, if necessary, hormone replacement therapies.
